Raisa was raised by her parents who resided in Los Angeles. Irlanda Almendarez and Italia Almendarez. Francia means France which is Italian. Italia and Irlanda are two Italian terms that refer to Italy. Her mother, Virginia Almendarez has Mexican roots as does her father Renan, has roots in Honduras. Renan switched his last name to Cucuy just after Francia's birth. The radio show he hosts is known and he's one of Los Angeles' top Latino DJs. Francia lived in a house with a celebrity dad, as did her siblings. She is fluent in both Spanish as well as English. Francia's parents enrolled her in dance classes when she was only five. The lessons were not limited to just one specific type of dance. There were classes that included many styles, such as tapping dancing and acrobatics.
